Hints are necessary to ensure that the raster output at small sizes will lead to readable results. Type 1 (OpenType CFF) and TrueType are using very different approaches.
A Type 1 hint is the definition of a horizontal or vertikal stem that most often corresponds to predefined stem width. FontLab supports normal stems, three äqudistant stems, aignment to alignment zones and hint replacements if stems overlap. |
